Trevor Bayliss to take over as interim coach of Hundred franchise London Spirit after Shane Warne’s sudden death – and ex-England coach will be reunited with Eoin Morgan

  • Trevor Bayliss was coach when Eoin Morgan skippered England to the World Cup
  • Bayliss will replace Shane Warne, who died suddenly this month at the age of 52
  • Since quitting England, Bayliss has coached Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL and and Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash

Trevor Bayliss is to take over as interim coach at London Spirit in a move which will resume his successful working relationship with Eoin Morgan.

The pair were at the helm of the England team as coach and white-ball captain for a four-year period that culminated in the winning of the 2019 World Cup.

The Australian will replace Shane Warne, who died suddenly this month at the age of 52 after a heart attack and whose state funeral takes place in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The draft for the second season of the Hundred has been pushed back to next week in the circumstances.

Spirit will get the first pick in that selection process after the Lord’s-based franchise finished bottom in the inaugural competition.

Since quitting England three years ago, Bayliss has coached Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Indian Premier League — but is no longer in the role — and Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
