Karnataka have been outdone twice by Tamil Nadu in their previous two meetings (SMAT Finals and Vijay Hazare Elite Group B game). The story has not changed much for Karnataka with the change of formats as they continue to struggle. One of the main reasons behind Karnataka’s struggle has been Devdutt Padikkal’s absence at the top of the order this season.

Devdutt Padikkal was Karnataka’s top scorer in the previous edition of the tournament with 737 runs. But due to national commitments, the southpaw had to miss the group stage games. He returned at the top of the order in the pre-quarterfinals against Rajasthan but failed to leave any impact. Padikkal returned with a score of 4 (24) and looked uncomfortable throughout his innings.

Meanwhile, for Tamil Nadu, not so much needs to be done as they have pretty much covered all the bases. However, the 41-run loss against Baroda will be something Vijay Shankar and Co. would want to avoid. N Jagadeesan and Shahrukh Khan will be the two key batters for TN while the spin duo of R Sai Kishore and M Siddharth will be itching to take the field.

But they have experience in their line-up too. The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar will be raring to go in the southern derby on Indian cricket.
