Ireland looks to kick off the campaign with a win: Ranked 12th in the T20 format, Ireland has been part of five T20 WC editions so far but only once they have managed to get past the group stage. Ireland made its debut in the 2009 T20 WC and was off to a flying start with a win against Bangladesh and even managed to qualify for the Super 8 stages. However, since then they haven’t managed to get past group stages. In the 2009 edition and the two tournaments thereafter, Ireland went winless for eight games in a row. In the 2014 T20 World Cup, they won two games but still couldn’t get past the group stage due to net run rate issues. In 2016 WC, they went home without a win in the tournament for the third time.
With just three wins in 15 matches in the last five tournaments, Ireland would be desperate to finish in the top two of Group A to advance to the Super 12 round. Placed alongside Namibia, the Netherlands, and Sri Lanka in Group A, Ireland’s task looks a bit tough.
Warmup matches:
vs PNG – Ireland won by 8 wickets
vs Bangladesh – Ireland won by 33 runs

Netherlands eye continuing their dominance over Ireland: The Dutch announced themselves in style in 2009 as they registered a memorable win against England at Lord’s in the opening match of the event. However, they failed to get past the group stage. They returned back in the 2014 edition after failing to qualify in the previous two editions and advanced into the second stage after chasing down a total of 190 in less than 14 overs against Ireland. In the second stage, the Netherlands once again thrashed England by 45 runs. In 2016 WC T20, they finished second in Round 1.
Interestingly, Netherlands have won seven of their 12 T20Is against Ireland and also won their recent ODI series which makes them a clear favourite for this fixture. In WC T20 meetings, the two sides have met twice with the Dutch coming victorious on both occasions.
Warmup Fixtures:
vs Scotland – Scotland won by 31 runs
vs Oman – Netherlands won by 4 runs

20 Oct – v Namibia
22 Oct – v Sri Lanka
