IND SA Boxing Day Test: Big Update, Virat Kohli team to play Proteas in empty stadium, ‘No crowd allowed for Boxing Day test’ – India and South Africa will face off in front of empty stands after Cricket South Africa (CSA) issues directives for the same. South Africa has been ravaged by the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and no crowds at Supersport Park are imposed with a view to curb the threat of the virus spread in the bio-bubble. As per local media reports, the Supersport Park have not put out any tickets for sale with the South African government implementing fresh protocols in the wake of the COVID-19 threat. According to Rapport, while current Covid-19 restrictions as implemented by the government allow for 2 000 fans, Cricket South Africa (CSA) will not be putting any tickets on sale. However, some of the suite holders and delegates will watch the match live in Centurion.

CSA await further updates and waits to see if there are any changes to government regulations regarding Covid-19 in the next week. The India vs South Africa 1st test is scheduled to kick off on December 26, next Sunday.

As things stand, no tickets have been put up for sale for the Second Test at the Wanderers, with the official Twitter account for the stadium saying: “At this point, it isn’t clear if fans will be allowed. We will make further announcements in due course.”.

India arrived safely in South Africa and have entered their Irene Lodge bio-secure bubble ahead of the three-Test matches and three one-day internationals (ODIs). Virat Kohli and Co. had undergone quarantine in Mumbai before travelling to South Africa, and have so far remained unscathed from the threat of the virus.
