UK Mourning Period: Man United vs Leeds and Chelsea vs Liverpool postponed
Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend after a pause to the season as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral.
In addition, kick-off times will change for two Premier League matches.
Matches postponed on Sunday 18 September are Chelsea’s matches against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United’s home match v Leeds United.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixture against Crystal Palace, that was due to be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday 17 September, will also remain postponed.
UK Mourning Period: Arsenal postpone UEL clash against PSV, Chelsea & Manchester City to make decision on UCL games
Arsenal confirmed the postponement of their Europa League game against PSV via an official statement, but the games of Chelsea and Man City are still in doubt as high security will be needed if the matches are set to go ahead. A decision on the fixtures will soon be announced.
In the headline Premier League match, the Blues are scheduled to host Jurgen Klopp’s side in new manager Graham Potter’s first game, but The Queen’s state funeral is due to be held less than 24 hours later putting the game into doubt.
The news comes on the back of the EFL’s confirmation that games will continue as scheduled from tomorrow evening’s midweek games following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen on Thursday.
Football in England had been stopped as a mark of respect, but normal service could be resumed at the weekend with football paying its respects to The Queen in several ways during games.
There are however doubts over games that are due to be played in London, with the match between Chelsea and Liverpool one of the matches at risk over policing issues.
