Lucas Digne expects Aston Villa to have busy summer in the transfer market as the club’s billionaire owners try to crack the Premier League elite.

Villa are set for a mid-table finish under Steven Gerrard but there is likely to be significant turnover within the squad before the start of next season, with the former England captain keen to strengthen in every area.

Gerrard is pushing for on-loan Philippe Coutinho to join permanently from Barcelona and Digne – who arrived from Everton for £27million in January – believes this signals Villa’s ambition.

‘You will see that there will be the quality to break into the top seven in the Premier League,’ said Digne.

‘Managing to attract someone like Philippe is already a sign. This summer, things will still move a lot. There are ways. You have to progress quickly. It is an ambitious club.

‘It’s just fabulous. The infrastructure, the staff of around 30 people, the personalised video rooms, the nutritionists there every day, the five physical trainers.

‘Everything is done to make you feel good, to progress.’

Villa face Wolves at the weekend with Gerrard challenging them to secure the club’s first top-half finish in the Premier League since 2011.

Digne is set to return to action after hamstring trouble while Kortney Hause and Marvelous Nakamba have also recovered from injury and could feature.

Meanwhile, Villa are optimistic about clinching the signing of 16-year-old Rangers striker Rory Wilson despite interest from several Premier League rivals.

Wilson is likely to cost about £300,000 in compensation after a prolific season in youth football. ends
