  • Harry Brook became the second fastest to hit hundred in Pakistan Super League

Harry Brook put a fallow winter behind him to hit the second-fastest hundred in Pakistan Super League history.

The Yorkshire batter, who made his England debut in the Caribbean last month, rescued Lahore Qalandars from a position of 12 for three and brought up his three figures in the penultimate over off just 48 balls.

His unbeaten 102 meant Islamabad United were set a huge 198-run total at the Gaddafi Stadium and the subsequent 66-run victory all but assures the Qalandars – who recently signed a player exchange partnership with Yorkshire – a top-two finish ahead of the competition’s knockout stages.

Brook, who turns 23 on Tuesday, endured a sequence of single-figure scores in Australia’s Big Bash League, mustering only 44 runs in seven innings for Hobart Hurricanes, but was still called up as a stand-by player for England’s 3-2 Twenty20 defeat to West Indies. He made 10 off 13 balls in his only appearance.

However, there were signs of his best form returning when he struck 114 runs for twice out across three innings for Lahore and he caressed 10 fours and five sixes in what was his maiden T20 hundred yesterday, sharing a quick fire century stand with Fakhar Zaman for the fourth wicket.

South African Rilee Rossouw holds the record for the fastest hundred in the PSL – a 43-ball effort for Multan two years ago.
