Through a post on Instagram, the national team later confirmed that Nedelev had suffered from ‘craniocerebral trauma’ and underwent successful surgery following the crash.

Nedelev, 29, currently plays for Bulgarian top flight side Botev Plovdiv and has made 44 appearances for his national side.

In October last year, the midfielder crushed Northern Ireland’s hopes at a place in this year’s World Cup after scoring an impressive second-half brace for his national side.

Georgi Ivanov’s side travelled to Tbilisi ahead of their Nations League C Group 4 clash with Georgia – with the hosts five points clear at the top of the group.

Bulgaria have had an underwhelming start to their Nations League group after losing 5-2 at home to upcoming opponents Georgia, before being held to a 1-1 draw with minnows Gibraltar.
