British No 1 Cam Norrie produces one of the biggest wins of his CAREER to beat world No 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas and reach the final of the Mexican Open… but it’s Rafael Nadal up next!

British No 1 Cameron Norrie booked his place in the final of the Mexican Open after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas. 

The 26-year-old won 6-4 6-4 in Acapulco to prevent the world No 4 from reaching a second straight final on Friday.

If he is to extend his titles to 10, Norrie will have to beat 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafa Nadal in the early hours of Sunday morning, UK time.

Speaking after the win, Norrie said: ‘I wasn’t really feeling well in the start of the match. I had some nerves, but my serve really kept me in there.

‘I was able to dictate play, and get into his backhand while defending my forehand.’

Nadal continued his fantastic start to the year by beating soon to be No 1 Daniil Medvedev to extend his unbeaten run to 14 matches. 

Nadal, who beat Medvedev in the Australian Open Final last month, fought from two sets down to win 6-3 6-3. 

The 35-year-old said: ‘I played some amazing points on those break points.

‘In the second set, Daniil was playing very aggressive, it was a very difficult set. I feel lucky to win that set.

‘I’m really happy with the way I played, against the number one player in the world, and happy to play in the final.’

Nadal was also complimentary of Norrie ahead of their match. ‘His level of tennis is huge. He improved a lot at the beginning of last year, and this year he continues,’ he said.
